Santa Barbara County splits cleanly into two markets with different needs. The south coast — Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Montecito — is tourism, restaurants, wineries and a student population. The north county — Santa Maria, Lompoc, Guadalupe — is agriculture, and its cash economy is considerably heavier.
